Summer Days
General opinion has it that I hate the town I live in. And I guess that in general, I could see why people think this. I feel at once both constantly overcrowded and yet as if there is nothing to do and nowhere to go a lot of the time. The true secret, however, is that I love this place in the summer. I love how once the majority of the undergrad population has left something eases up and slowly the town relaxes becoming the sleepy little town it was meant to be. I love driving home on backroads watching the sunset paint the sky on hazy summer nights. I love the sweet smell as I drive by corn fields and the way the air at dusk cools to that perfect snuggly warm temperature. I also love the river as it reflects the evening. This summer has been especially nice. There haven’t been as many mosquitoes for some unknown reason. I’ve been spending more time outside bike riding, or running rather than in the gym. It makes me sad that the end of July is already upon us and that soon summer will once again be just a distant memory.
