Seriously?
A group of us were having lunch today with a speaker from overseas. At lunch the conversation was dominated by a discussion of liberal art colleges and what the differences between types of colleges in the US are. We spent some time explaining how liberal arts colleges might have different focuses and that there were liberal arts colleges that were more focused on science. Our department chair’s son is getting to college age and there was a brief mention of this and how his son would most likely be focused on a school with a strong science focus. The speaker then asked our department chair, “Well, if you had daughters you’d send them somewhere different than your son right?” I have no idea what was going on in his mind when he said that. I guess we women are just not into science. Perhaps I was at lunch to help with polite chit chat?
The lunch continued with the department chair and the speaker talking about schools some more. I proceeded to talk to theGreekTomatoHater about papers we could write.
